Safety in the snow
Pupils must take care when travelling to school by car, bus or on foot. The roads may be too dangerous to cycle on. Please encourage your child to allow extra time for the journey and to wear the appropriate coat and footwear in order to keep warm and dry. It is essential that you ask your child not to throw snowballs on the way to and from school or whilst at school due to the danger of the compacted ice contained within them.
On-site safety
We understand the enjoyment that snow brings but the safety of all members of the school community will always be our priority. The tarmacked playgrounds may be out-of-bounds during break and lunch times. In this event, pupils should follow the wet break procedure which provides information confirming the rooms form groups are allowed to be in.
Solihull
Examinations
If your child is set to take a mock examination and it is snowing it is essential that they check to see if the school is open. In the event of closure mock examinations will be re-arranged to a later date. There are no longer external public examinations during the winter.
School Website / Twitter
The school website and Twitter feed www.twitter.com/StPetersSch will be updated by 7:15am to advise you if the school will be open, late opening or closed. We will always make every attempt to open the school unless we feel the conditions are so bad that the health and safety of children and staff are at risk.
If conditions deteriorate during the school day and we have concerns regarding the safety of pupils travelling home we will always contact parents via email and by text message to inform you of any decision. Pupils will also be allowed to use their own mobile phones to contact home.
It is therefore essential that we have a current mobile phone number and email address on the system. Please can you forward any recent changes to the main office using the Contact section of the website or by logging on to the Parent Portal and amending your details.

Planning ahead
If you are having difficulty getting to school to pick up your child and you will be more than 15 minutes late, please call us to let us know. We will be able to reassure your child that you are on your way and your child will be able to remain safely inside.
If your child normally travels home alone after school and because of the bad weather you want them to wait to be collected, please contact school as soon as possible so that we can get a message to your child and their class teacher before the end of the school day. Buses usually run as normal but can be delayed due to heavy traffic so do allow for this.
