Literacy is a key priority at St Peter’s and it is embedded into lessons across all subjects and staff receive regular training and update.

We recognise the importance of reading for success and the positive impact reading for pleasure has on pupils’ mental health. See the recommended reads for KS3 for ideas for your child. Pupils in Y7-10 take part in form time reading twice a week during form time, with the form tutor reading aloud to all students. All Y7s complete an NGRT test at the beginning of the autumn term and paired reading with a Y12 students is offered for those with the lowest reading ages.

Y7 parents are also invited to a literacy and numeracy partnership evening. In the summer term, we will be hosting a scholastic book sale, giving all pupils the opportunity to buy a range of books at discounted prices. Also, we plan to hold a second hand book sale run by sixth form students.
