PSHE
St Peter’s personal, social, health and economic education (PSHE) is designed to prepare our pupils for life outside of school. They develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to manage life’s challenges and make the most of life’s opportunities. Our carefully designed PSHE curriculum gives pupils the confidence and conviction to protect themselves, influence others positively and be an upstanding citizen in their local and wider community.
The topics studied at St. Peter’s fit into one of three key areas:
- Created to love others;
- Created and loved by God;
- Created to live in a community.
Each half term focuses on one of these themes and looks in detail at some of the prevalent issues within that area. Created to love others focuses on managing friendships, forming healthy relationships, and enjoying family life. As pupils progress into key stage four, we teach them about navigating intimate relationships. Created and loved by God looks at how we take care of our body as well as mind and includes first aid training.
Studying how we are created to live in a community teaches pupils the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance. At key stage four, this also includes careers and finance.
Our PSHE curriculum builds on our Catholic ethos of ‘faith is our foundation’ by embedding values and virtues in every lesson. We are proud that it gives pupils the skills they will need to develop as a whole person.
PSHE is an integral component of our curriculum and is delivered as a discreet subject in a weekly (KS4) or fortnightly (KS3) lesson, as well as through allocated form periods.
All teachers are responsible for delivering PSHE at St. Peter’s.
