The study of Religious Education occupies a central place in the St Peter’s curriculum.  As a Catholic school, we consider it a core subject and every pupil will study the subject up to GCSE. 

Religious Education at St Peter’s develops a deep understanding of Catholic beliefs, practices and teaching.  Religious Education enables young people to be increasingly able to make an informed and mature response to God and to nurture that faith.

We also study the other great world religions such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.  In tackling difficult questions, Religious Education provides pupils with insight that can work to challenge stereotypes, promote cohesion, and tackle extremism. Religious Education at St Peters encourages young people to value themselves and the communities within which they live.

At GCSE, pupils follow the Edexcel specification 1RA0ZS.

At post sixteen, pupils study Christian Philosophy and Ethics at A level through OCR’s Religious Studies H573, which is complemented by completing their Extended Project qualification in Year 12. 

The topics studied both challenge and support the young adults academically, socially and emotionally and equip them to challenge an increasingly secular world.  Religious Studies empowers religiously literate young men and women to develop a confidence and maturity in their outlook on life enabling them to truly live a life with ‘Faith as their Foundation’.
